Tourism
Tourism’s importance to Singapore goes beyond its economic contribution to GDP and job creation. Tourism development enhances the attractiveness of Singapore as a destination and thus its status as a liveable and respected nation. We have witnessed the successful establishment of the integrated resorts and new attractions such as the River Safari, Gardens by the Bay, Marine Life Park and the five-year extension of the Formula One Singapore Grand Prix. There will be a steady pipeline of new leisure products and events to maintain Singapore’s position as a compelling destination. The next five years will see the opening of new attractions such as the National Art Gallery and hosting of global events such as the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Championships from 2014 to 2018.
With tourism receipts expected to grow at 4 to 6 per cent and visitor arrivals at 3 to 4 per cent per annum over the next decade, the sector will continue to grow and provide exciting job opportunities to young Singapore talents.

Potential Career Path:
All scholars will be incorporated into the Far East Hospitality Talent Pool. During their course of study, Far East Hospitality will have quarterly touchpoints with them. This is a 3 hour session where the company brings all their scholars together and have them be addressed by one of Far East Hospitality’s Executive Directors or Chief Operating Officers. The purpose of these sessions are to inform the scholars about the direction and plans of the organisation, and also for the EDs/COOs to share how they go about doing business in the organisation. Far East Hospitality seeks to familiarise scholars with the values of the organisation right from this point. These touchpoints also serve to create networking opportunities among the scholars.
At the same time, within the first year of their study, the Learning & Development team will have a one-on-one career discussion with the scholar to better understand their aspirations and how we can support them through development channels such as:
1. Mentoring (by a current FEO staff)
2. Job Shadowing
3. Training Courses
This one-on-one session serves as a platform for career counseling and for introducing scholars to Far East Hospitality framework for growing one’s career within the organization. The inputs from here will eventually translate into the job that the scholar undertakes when they finish their course as well as the Individual Development Plan (IDP) that Far East Hospitality will roll out formally when he/she comes on board.
Finally, during their course of study, scholars will be encouraged to do at least one internship with Far East Hospitality. The internship gives the company an opportunity to assess the scholar, his/her work ethic and practical areas where the company can continue to coach or develop them during their course of study.
