The SgIS Information Fair 2015 was held on 28 February 2015 at Suntec Convention & Exhibition Centre. Through the organisations’ booth exhibitions and different industry panel sessions, students and parents gained in-depth insights about SgIS as well as the potential career opportunities and development that an SgIS scholar can get with these organisations.

2014 SgIS Award Ceremony

This year, ninety-six students were awarded the SgIS Full-Term and Mid-Term scholarships at the SgIS Award Ceremony held on 26 August at Concorde Hotel. Mr Heng Swee Keat, Minister for Education, was the Guest-of-Honour along with senior management representatives from SgIS participating organisations.

The SgIS recipients were recognised for their well-rounded achievements and their zealous aspirations to contribute to Singapore’s progress. Not only would these scholars have a head-start in their career with the participating organisations in the industry of their choice, their journey with SgIS will be enhanced through the Scholars Development and Engagement Programme which seeks to instil in them a strategic outlook, allow them to gain professional experiences, and to build their connection as a SgIS community.

2013 SgIS Mid-Term Overseas

Last spring, together with my fellow overseas scholar, Cheong Qin Zheng and representatives from the SgIS team, I had the opportunity to share with fellow overseas students about this scheme and my personal motivations for taking up the scholarship through two separate events – a career fair organised by Contact Singapore and Singapore Day 2014. There was a spread of students ranging from first year undergraduates to masters students. I was thrilled to see the enthusiasm showcased by the students. We exchanged opinions on certain issues, such as what motivates us to return to Singapore to work and what is the current job market in Singapore, in addition to answering their queries on the scholarship scheme.

For instance, one of the more popular question posed by several students was regarding the value of the award and whether it was “worth it” to take up the scholarship. This is a valid concern as the value of the award might not be sufficient to cover one’s entire tuition fees and living expenses for an overseas student. However, reflecting on my personal motivation to apply for this scholarship, I shared with them that one of the main reasons for choosing this scholarship is that I am attracted to the company and the potential opportunities which are offered and aligned to my interests. The monetary reward is merely a bonus!

All in all, I truly valued such sharing sessions where we, students, had the opportunity to exchange perspectives on making career decisions, thereby helping each other shape our personal career goals and explore possible options to pursue them.

2013 SgIS Award Ceremony

Ninety-seven students received the Singapore-Industry Scholarship (SgIS) at the 2013 SgIS Award Ceremony held on 26 August, which was graced by Mr Heng Swee Keat, Minister for Education. Amongst them were six students who were awarded the SgIS Mid-Term Scholarships. This is the first year that the mid-term scholarships are being offered to students studying in local and overseas universities.

2012 SgIS Inaugural Award Ceremony

The inaugural SgIS Award Ceremony was held on 2 August 2012 (Thursday). A total of 90 SgIS scholars received their scholarship awards from senior representatives of our participating organisations. Our 28 participating organisations and 11 Economic Agencies also took part in a symbolic lighting of the SgIS logo to affirm their commitment to nurture a strong core of Singaporean talent through the SgIS.
